Comeback Medvedev Secures First Title in Over Two Years
19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard courts
A comeback the Russian player won his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a torrid period, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in particular - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually separating with former trainer Gilles Cervara.
Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from spring of the previous year.
Victory also signifies he has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my both daughters together, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six finals, comprising in Halle previously this season.
Medvedev's counter-punching approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had caused commentators to wonder if his ability to perform at the top level was concluded.
However the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an improved serve.
The champion recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.
The pair traded service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his first professional championship, took control to force a decider.
Moutet rescued 4 early opportunities in a competitive third set before the champion broke to 15 to serve for the match.
Fittingly, he clinched victory with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman failing to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
