The New Mayor Pledges a 'Fresh Chapter' for New York City in Maiden Address
During an initial day in office, Zohran Mamdani vowed to “reinvent” America's largest city, declaring “a new era” and an ambitious commencement to his administration.
An Unprecedented Mayor
The young democratic socialist, who just a year ago remained a relatively obscure state assemblyman, is the city's first mayor born in Africa. He additionally marked a milestone by being the first to be sworn in using the Islamic holy text.
